El Monte highlight
Strong Latino community
A vibrant Latino community that has grown to comprise 64.7 percent of El Monte's population, rooted in Mexican heritage and multi-generational family networks.

El Monte is home to one of the strongest and most established Latino communities in the San Gabriel Valley. According to the 2020 Census, Hispanic and Latino residents comprise 64.7 percent of the city's population of 109,450, with Mexican residents at 60.9 percent in 2010. The city became a majority Hispanic community through gradual demographic shifts beginning in the mid-20th century, as families from Mexico and other Latin American countries made El Monte their home and built roots there across multiple generations.
This transformation makes El Monte distinctive: it is not a new community, but one with deep, continuous Latino presence. The culture and networks of Latino families—from small businesses to churches to neighborhood gatherings—form the backbone of El Monte's identity today. The city's municipal leadership reflects this reality, with Latino representatives prominent in city council and city government, shaping decisions and policies for a community they grew up in or represent.
The economic security of Latino families in El Monte—the ability to keep a house, support children through school, and save for unexpected hardship—is a core concern for households throughout the city. A term life policy matched to a family's real obligations helps ensure that if the primary earner dies unexpectedly, the household can stay in the home, keep the children in school, and weather the loss without immediate crisis.
