No-exam life insurance

How to qualify for rapid underwriting, what the process entails, and your choices when you don't meet the criteria.

Today's carriers often provide expedited underwriting: people within specific age and amount ranges can get approval through application review, pharmacy records, license check, and other information alone, skipping the medical exam. Many reach a decision within 24 hours. Each rate displayed on this site indicates whether that product requires an exam, might require one, or skips it altogether.

What it changes

Fast approval means the underwriting still happens. The carrier verifies your responses, and a policy issued based on false information can be voided within the first 24 months. Should the insurer find concerning data, they may request medical tests or exam results anyway—and you can walk away.

Who tends to qualify

Typically those under age 60, requesting amounts within the carrier's no-exam cap, free of serious health issues, and non-smokers for a year or longer. Previous health screenings with lab work from a doctor visit are sometimes substituted for a physical exam by some carriers.

A paramedical examiner typically arrives at your El Monte home or workplace for a quick 20-to-30-minute appointment, with no charge to you. Excellent health often results in a better rate class through examination, making the exam beneficial instead of a hassle.
